Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (also known as Sonic 2, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic 2) is a platformer video game developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega. The game was released for the Sega Genesis on September 9, 1994 in North America and November 1, 1994 in Japan. In Japan, this game was called Sonic Adventure.

The game is primarily set in modern-day Earth after the first Sonic game, where the series' protagonist Sonic (who lives in the fictional "Sonic Universe" parallel to Earth) has returned from his eight-year sojourn in the "futuristic" universe of the first game. Despite the time that has passed, Sonic is back in his usual pursuit of restoring peace and order to the world.

Sonic Generations follows the plots of the second and third games in the series, but is set a decade after Sonic 3 (1997) and Sonic & Knuckles (1998). It features the usual fast-paced platform gameplay, but also new gameplay modes, such as the ability to play as Knuckles with the Sonic series' fast-paced gameplay system; the ability to play as Sonic with the slow gameplay system of the third game; and the ability to play as both Sonic and Knuckles at once.
